Sam Shields is the system vice president of strategy and regional operations for Dartmouth Health. In his current role, he is responsible for strategic planning, system integration, partnerships and telehealth for the system.
He is a member of the Value Institute leadership team, which includes quality, safety, patient experience and operational excellence for the system. He is an adjunct professor at the Tuck School of Business and a lecturer at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College.
Prior to joining Dartmouth Health, Sam held various leadership positions in the Specialty Chemical and Aerospace industries. Sam is a certified professional in healthcare quality and a certified Six Sigma black belt through the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, an MBA from Texas A&M University, and an MHCDS (Master of Healthcare Delivery Science) from Dartmouth College.
In addition to the New London Hospital Board of Trustees, Sam is a member of the Board of Directors for New Hampshire PBS and Valley Regional Hospital.
He holds a U.S. patent for his work in the development of nanotechnology for use in inkjet printing.
Sam and his family live in Newbury, New Hampshire.
