What is a Type B Emergency Department?

A Type B emergency department is an emergency care facility that is licensed by the state of New Hampshire and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). By definition, a Type B emergency department provides care for emergency medical conditions on an urgent basis without an appointment.

Being classified as a Type B emergency department, Express Care Plus is held to the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). We are required by law to provide emergency medical screening and stabilizing treatment to any patient regardless of their ability to pay or their insurance coverage.
