New London Hospital Ambulance Service (NLHAS), a department of New London Hospital (NLH), and a member of Dartmouth Health, has been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) with its Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Award for providing timely, evidence-based care to patients experiencing serious heart attacks and strokes.
Mission: Lifeline EMS is AHA’s national initiative to advance the system of care for patients with high-risk, time-sensitive health emergencies such as severe heart attacks and strokes. The program helps patients reduce barriers to prompt treatment, starting from when 911 is called to EMS transport and continuing through hospital treatment and discharge.
“Advancing to the Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Award is an important accomplishment for NLH Ambulance Service and reflects the continued improvement of our clinical care,” said Derick Aumann, director of NLH Ambulance Service. “This recognition also belongs to our first responder partners throughout our service area. The quality of care we provide is strengthened by the collaboration and commitment of everyone who contributes to our regional emergency care system.”

The Mission: Lifeline EMS achievement award recognizes the critical role EMS agencies play in identifying and treating heart attack and stroke patients before they reach the hospital. Early assessment and intervention can help patients receive the appropriate treatment more quickly once they arrive at the hospital.
“Arguably the most important link in the chains of survival for acute stroke and cardiovascular emergencies is emergency medical services and prehospital professionals,” said Kacey Kronenfeld, M.D., FAEMS, chair of the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline EMS Taskforce. “Early condition identification, stabilization and prehospital interventions, and initiation of actions within the regional systems of care provide patients with the best chance for receiving expedient definitive therapies leading to optimal outcomes and maximized quality of life.”
