New London Hospital and Valley Regional Healthcare Collaborate to Provide Close-to-Home Primary Care in Newport

New London, NH – New London Hospital and Valley Regional Healthcare of Claremont are strengthening their commitment to work together to increase accessibility of high-quality patient care in Newport NH, a community considered to be in both hospitals’ service areas. The new building currently under construction for the Newport Health Center, which was begun in 1991 as an outreach program of New London Hospital, is scheduled to open in October 2016. It will include space leased to Valley Regional Healthcare for several of its primary care providers under terms just agreed to by CEOs of both hospitals.

Says New London Hospital President and CEO Bruce P. King, “We are pleased to be welcoming Valley Regional providers to our new building in Newport. This partnership is an example of how healthcare systems are coming together and aligning resources to better meet the health needs of our communities. We want all patients in Newport and beyond to receive the high quality, close-to-home care they need to stay healthy and to get well, regardless of who delivers that care.”

Peter J. Wright, FACHE, President and CEO of Valley Regional Healthcare agrees. “We look forward to partnering in providing care within the new Newport Health Center. It is yet another step forward to provide the right care in the right place at the right time, every time. This modern medical space will surely benefit our patients and team, enhancing the care experience in the region.”

To date, a total of $967,000 has been confirmed in charitable donations to this $9 million Building for Health project. The Roy Malool Family Foundation is the project’s largest private contributor thus far with a pledge of $350,000 toward the $2.2 million fundraising goal. Newport resident and businessman Roy Malool has been a longtime proponent of greater collaboration between New London Hospital and Valley Regional Hospital. Says Malool, “I am thrilled that New London and Valley Regional Hospitals are coordinating in this way for the good of Newporters and others. To succeed in meeting patient and community needs, that’s what healthcare must be about—cooperation, more than competition.”
