NEW LONDON HOSPITAL INVITES COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT 3D MAMMOGRAPHY

On Thursday, April 25th New London Hospital (NLH) invites all community members to climb aboard the Hologic Armor mobile coach to learn more about 3D mammography, also called tomosynthesis for breast screening. In the spring/summer of 2013, NLH will be the first Critical Access Hospital in the state to offer patients both digital mammography and 3D mammography.

By combining 3D breast tomosynthesis with 2D digital screening mammography, Radiologists are able to detect more cancers as well as reduce the number of repeat call backs. Abnormalities such as masses, distortions and dense tissue can be seen more clearly in areas that may have been questioned with a 2D mammogram.

The mobile coach is a brightly colored pink, purple and white mobile center equipped with a Hologic 3D mammography unit. The coach will be located in the Colonial Plaza parking lot in New London from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Community members are invited to view a product demonstration with members of the New London Hospital Radiology team and learn how this screening technology can be used in the fight against breast cancer. There will be informational material and light snacks served in the adjacent storefront. There is no cost to attend.
