A New London Hospital initiative to reduce overweight and obesity incidences among middle/high school age youth through a healthy eating and active living program at Newport Middle High School has been funded by the Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield Foundation grant. The program will be implemented through the Tiger Treatment Center (TTC), the only school-based health clinic in NH. Established in 2003 with an initial grant from the Endowment for Health, TTC is supported by New London Hospital to provide access to care for the students and faculty of the school. The Fit for Life program will engage students in developing and conducting nutrition education, exercise, and fitness programs that can be delivered from year to year and be integrated into school, community and healthcare systems. The $40,000 grant includes fitness equipment, outreach materials, and program staffing.
