Volunteer Spotlight
Ann Gregory grew up in Connecticut and after
graduating from Greenwich High School, she moved to
New York City to attend St. Vincent’s School of Nursing.
She went on to work at New York Life, using her nursing
skills in an office setting. She enjoyed her job, especially
because she met her husband at New York Life. The
Gregorys then moved and spent most of their married
life in Massachusetts, raising three daughters. Currently,
one daughter works at Unum in Maine, one is a stay at
home mom with a six-year-old daughter, and one is a
social worker.
Ann and her family also spent time at their small cottage
in Antrim. Ann’s husband had some health issues and
noticed that he felt better breathing New Hampshire air,
so they moved to the New London area. Ann joined the
NLH Auxiliary and was asked to serve on the Auxiliary
Board. She started volunteering her time at NLH’s front
desk and then helped with arranging and taking care of
the flowers. Ann has also worked for the Revenue Cycle
Services department, helping to get the bills ready to
mail, and then for the Accounting Department, getting
the payroll checks ready to go in the mail. With the
changing times and the elimination of these manual
procedures, Ann is now working in the Volunteer
office, providing informational packets and doing
photocopying for any department that has a need.
When asked why she enjoys volunteering at the
hospital, Ann said, “Knowing that we are appreciated
makes a difference.”
