Grand Marshal Evelyn Weber Leads the Parade
During the annual New London Hospital (NLH) Day parade, the
Grand Marshal’s duty is to lead the parade down Main Street. This year,
the honor goes to 92-year old Evelyn Weber. Evelyn will be leading the
parade just as she has led her family and hospital volunteers for years.
The New York City native has always sought ways to give back to
the community, from helping to run clinics in New York to 30 years
of volunteering at NLH. She started by working for the NLH Auxiliary
rummage sale and soon she was involved with many more hospital
events. Leading up to Hospital Day, Evelyn collects knitted items,
and then co-runs the sales of these knitted goods during the event.
As well as collecting items, she has knitted cast toe covers for the NLH
Emergency Department. She currently works in the NLH volunteer office.
Evelyn and her husband, Harry Weber, came to New London Hospital when
her husband needed medical care. His gratitude for the hospital’s services
encouraged him to become a member of the Board. After Harry passed
away, Evelyn wanted to continue showing her gratitude and to help the
hospital in as many ways as she could. Evelyn’s smile and positive attitude
have touched many at NLH. According to Manager of Volunteer Services
Nancy Collins, “Whenever she completes a job, she always asks, ‘what else
can I do?’ The honor of being Grand Marshal suits her welcome presence
and willingness to go the extra mile. This is one way we can show our
appreciation for Evelyn’s gifts to us.”
