2nd Annual Ohler Lecture

The Benefits of Investing in Hospice and Palliative Care

                                Mark your calendar and join Dr. David Currow and NLH for the 2nd Annual
                                Ohler Lecture on The Benefits of Investing in Hospice and Palliative Care.
                                During this informative lecture, attendees will learn:

                                • H ow ensuring high quality care for people with life-limiting illnesses and
                                   for their caregivers is crucial to the health and wellbeing of communities

                                • That focusing on patient-centered priorities is pivotal to good
                                   end-of-life care.

                                • How long-term caregiver health can also be improved by good
                                   end-of-life care.

                                Dr. Currow is Professor of Palliative and Supportive Services at Flinders
                                University in South Australia and the newly named Director of Palliative
                                Medicine and Hospice Care at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and Professor of
                                Medicine at Geisel Medical School. He serves as the Principal Investigator
                                on the Australian government funded Palliative Care Clinical Studies
                                Collaborative–the world’s largest clinical trials group in palliative care—and
                                is a co-founder of the Australian Palliative Care Outcomes Collaborative.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9              With more than 380 publications to his name, Dr. Currow is among the
                                top 10 most published palliative care researchers in the world. He is senior

                                Supportive and Palliative Care and the Journal of Oncology Practice.

       Ware Student Center      Dr. John Ohler practiced medicine in New London from 1953 to 1988. He was a highly
                                respected physician, by both colleagues and patients. He was also an active community
            Wheeler Hall        volunteer during his career and in retirement. In Dr. Ohler’s memory, NLH medical staff created
                                a fund to support an annual lecture to benefit both healthcare professionals and the public.
