There are few contributions more rewarding than those assuring quality health care within the community. New London Hospital offers a variety of ways for individuals and organizations to support its vision: to be an outstanding community hospital. Because each donor has unique experiences and interests, there are a number of funds which a charitable gift can benefit.
Contributions may be made to:
Annual Fund
When giving to the Annual Fund, the donor does not specify where the contribution is to be used. Rather, the donor entrusts that this unrestricted gift will be thoughtfully used by the hospital where the need is greatest. The most common ways of giving to the Annual Fund are gifts of cash or securities.
Capital
Capital gifts may be made for the hospital's physical plant or to purchase equipment. A list of capital equipment needs can be furnished upon request.
Endowment
Investing in the future of NLH, gifts to endowment will help support the hospital in perpetuity.
Golf Tournament
Each year, New London Hospital hosts a golf tournament at the challenging and award-winning Baker Hill Golf Club in Newbury.
Join us for golf, camaraderie, dinner, and to help
support our commitment to providing the finest in community healthcare.
Hospital Days
For more than 80 years, Hospital Days has been held the first full weekend of August. Proceeds from Hospital Days benefit the Annual Fund.
Memorial Fund
Unrestricted or specific purpose gifts may be made as a thoughtful remembrance in memory of a friend or loved one.
Specific Departments or Programs
Donors can specify which department or program they wish their gift to benefit. Examples of specific programs at NLH include the Emergency Department, Ambulance Service, Special Care Unit, Clough Center, Rock Dental Clinic, ABC's Child Care and many more.
Contributions may be made in several forms, including:
Cash
Perhaps the simplest way to contribute, cash gifts are tax-deductible as provided by law.
Securities
Making a gift of appreciated assets, such as stock, offers a two-fold benefit to the donor. The tax deduction enjoyed is equal to the fair market value of the donated securities, and capital gains is generally avoided.
Tangible Property
Assets of tangible personal property such as art, jewelry, antiques and books can be contributed as provided by law.
Real Estate
With a gift of real estate, such as a vacation home or primary residence, the donor enjoys a tax deduction for the current fair market value of the property and avoids capital gains. A donor may also choose to retain the right of the use of the donated property.
Estate Planning / Bequests
There are several arrangements through which a donor can receive income while making a meaningful charitable gift. One of the simplest life income arrangements is the charitable gift annuity. In exchange for a gift to a charitable organization, the donor receives a guaranteed, fixed income for life. The annual payment is based on the age of the donor at the time the gift is made. Donors also receive a tax deduction for a portion of their gift.
Many people make their ultimate charitable gift through their will. A will is the foundation of an estate plan, and allows individuals to state who will benefit from their legacy and in what proportions. A bequest can be a specific dollar amount or a percentage of the total estate.
Deferred gifts, such as bequests, life income arrangements, and trusts, offer many interesting options through which both charitable and personal financial goals can be realized. In recognition of those who support the hospital in this important way, New London Hospital is proud to have established The 1918 Society. Each member's vision and thoughtful planning today help to ensure the strength of the hospital for future generations.
Each and every gift, regardless of size, makes a difference and is very gratefully received at NLH. All gifts are tax deductible as allowed by law.
