Volunteer Roles Overview

Following are five Triathlon areas for which we depend on volunteers—possibly you! Choose one or more areas that interest you, then please sign up to volunteer by clicking here. As you can see, each area has supporting roles, which will be assigned by the Tri Volunteer Coordinator. We will follow up within a week of your application with your specific placement and additional details.


Check-In Volunteers 6:45-9AM*

Volunteers assigned to this area will help triathletes with required pre-event check-in needs.
Role(s) you may be assigned include:

  • Team/Individual Triathlete Check-in
  • Race Packet/T-shirt Distribution
  • Timing Chip Distribution
  • Race Number Body Marking

*Individuals who volunteer at check-in often stay at the event to volunteer at the finish line. See Finish Line Volunteer information below.


Finish Line Volunteers, 8:45-11AM (even if in another role prior to this role, please arrive for this role at the designated time)

Volunteers assigned to this area will help once a triathlete completes the event.
Role(s) you may be assigned include:

  • Finish Line Results Monitoring
  • Medal Distribution
  • Timing Chip Collection


Bike/Run Transistion Area Volunteers, 7-10:30AM

Volunteers assigned to this area will get to experience the most high-energy action as triathletes use this area to quickly change from swim to bike to run. Volunteers will help manage this area and ensure a positive experience for the triathletes. Responsibilities for transition area will be assigned day of event by the Race Manager.


Course Marshall  Volunteers, 7–10:30AM

Volunteers assigned to this area will work in conjunction with the New London Police Department and/or the Race Manager to help guide athletes along the course or monitor possible spectator interference. Role(s) you may be assigned include:

  • Course Marshall – Spectator Guide
  • Course Marshall – Triathlete Guide


Kids Fun Run Volunteers, 7:30 -11:30AM

Volunteers assigned to the Kids Fun Run get to help our youngest athletes. When the triathlon is near completion there is a short ½-mile run for children ages 11 and under.
Role(s) you may be assigned include:

  • Kids Fun Run Registration
  • Kids Fun Run Course Marshall
