To Our Community:
As part of our commitment to improve the health of our patients and families in our community, and to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, New London Hospital will become a tobacco-free campus on November 18.
Employees, patients and families, providers, volunteers, visitors and vendors are asked to refrain from using all tobacco products on our New London and Newport campuses.
In becoming tobacco-free, New London Hospital joins many other hospitals across the state in going smoke-free.
Our employees have been very involved in this initiative for eleven months and I am particularly appreciative of the strong effort and support from the hospital employees who do use tobacco. While this initiative does not require any employee to quit using tobacco, we believe providing a variety of options to encourage quitting for our employees who do smoke and having a tobacco-free environment will help support an individual employee’s efforts.
I understand that our tobacco-free policy may be difficult for some patient families. We ask that you please refrain from smoking on campus for your own health and the health of our employees.
