New London Hospital (NLH) was honored with two awards at the New Hampshire Hospital Association's (NHHA) 80th Annual Meeting held at the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods. NLH President and CEO Bruce King received the Leslie A. Smith President's Award and The Wellness Connection-for a Healthy Lake Sunapee Region, led by NLH's Lauren Conkey, was named recipient of the HEAL NH Award for promoting healthy eating and active living.

The Leslie A. Smith President's Award is bestowed annually upon an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to the NHHA. King has served as member of the NHHA Board of Trustees in a variety of capacities, including Chairman of the Board. "While Bruce is certainly dedicated to the mission of his own hospital, he has forged a strong link between his hospital and NHHA because he believes in the importance of this association and makes regular use of its services," said NHHA President Steve Ahnen.

The Wellness Connection was created in response to an anonymous $700,000 gift to NLH in 2012-whose donor asked for "a plan for improving the health of the community and the patients served by the hospital." This organization, with a 15-person community steering committee from leading institutions and key constituencies, is bringing people together to create environments where they live, work and play that help make healthy choices the easy choices.

"I am honored and humbled to have received the President's Award," stated King. "I am also very proud to see New London Hospital leading a community-wide health initiative aimed at creating long-lasting partnerships and establishing resources for wellness that can be used by community members, employers and organizations in our region for years to come."
