Jeffrey Powell, MD, an Internal Medicine primary care physician at New London Hospital (NLH), has received the 2012 New Hampshire Hospital Association Medical Staff of the Year Award. Dr. Powell recently celebrated his 34th year on the NLH Medical Staff.
Since 2005, Dr. Powell has been the physician champion for the implementation of an electronic medical record (EMR) in the New London Physician Practices. As Co-Chair of the implementation task force, he was instrumental in evaluating, recommending and testing the technology that has become a critical tool in significantly improving patient care. Dr. Powell continues to remain closely involved with encouraging physicians to learn and use the electronic medical record.
Over the years Dr. Powell has served as President and Vice President of the Medical Staff, Vice President for Medical Affairs of the hospital, Chairman of the Department of Medicine, a delegate to the House of Delegates of the NH State Medical Society, and an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Dr. Powell received his medical degree at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC and completed his residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland, OH.
