Fifteen students from the Newport Middle High School 8th Grade Nursing Camp visited New London Hospital recently and spent the afternoon touring an operating room and observing a mock procedure. The tour is part of a two-week camp led by Tanya Wilkie, a teacher at Sugar River Technical School in Newport who leads the school's LNA education program during the school year. The students donned appropriate gowns and entered one of the hospital's two operating rooms where they were introduced to equipment and patient procedures. The camp is for students who are thinking about a career in the medical field and gives them an introduction to how an operating functions. Wilkie's students have been coming to NLH for 8 years.
