DIABETES PATIENT SPEAKS OUT ABOUT TAKING CONTROL OF THE DISEASE

November is National Diabetes Month and the community is invited to attend a presentation and conversation with Kirk Kenyon, an A1C Champion on Tuesday, November 29 at 6 PM at Newport Health Center, 11 John Stark Highway, Newport, NH.

Kenyon was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 1987 when he was 43 and is an advocate for teaching self-management of the disease. He will share his personal experience with diabetes and discuss such topics as achieving good glucose control, developing a balanced, healthy lifestyle, overcoming fears surrounding diabetes and finding resources for diabetes support.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that more than 20 million Americans have diabetes, sic million of whom are unaware they have the disease. Alarmingly, more than 50% of diabetes patients are not in control of their disease.

Kirk will share his techniques for controlling his A1C level—the test that assesses blood glucose levels over a two-to-three month period—and will provide motivation for others to become A1C Champions!

To reserve a place for this interactive presentation, please call 863-4100 by November 25.
